Worlds Collide?

How Did I End Up here?

Artist's Statement

I’ve been creating art of all kinds for as long as I can remember. While having worked in everything from pastels to ceramics to fabrics, I currently embrace water media (watercolor, gouache and acrylic) with collage.

I am a whimsical surrealist and therefore my art work is not at all traditional.  For me creating a work of art is a very thoughtful process.  My efforts reflect my love of color and using expressive color to establish mood.  Work on every painting creates its own unique challenge.

My current work is exploring the concept of Dual Realities.  I am fascinated by the idea that there is always more than one Reality in any circumstance.  It might be the physical and the metaphysical, the present and the past, or the possible and the impossible.  It is two differing points of view simultaneously.   In my mind this concept is about the layers of ideas as well as paint.   Inspiration can also come from something that visually excites me, whether it is the unplanned results of adding paint to paper and finding realistic imaging in abstract beginnings, a fascinating shape, the dimensions of a texture, or the effect of one color against another.    I like a little ambiguity in my imagery to help engage the viewer’s imagination and reflection.

I graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Technical Theatre.  I concentrated on lighting design and also studied scene design, because I loved to created mood.  I returned to painting eight years ago after applying my artistic talents to my four children for twenty years.

I have studied painting with Donald Hall, Mike Bailey, Pat Fry, Karen Fry, William ‘Skip’ Lawrence, Donna Zagotta, Dale Laitinen, Katherine Chang Liu, Pat Dews, and Mark Mahaffey.

I am a former leader of the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society and have been an active member since 2002.
