Artist's Statement
While born and raised in San Francisco, Barbara Abbott has spent most of her adult life living and painting in different parts of the United States, among them Utah, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana. Her education includes a BFA, Univ. of Utah, and an MFA, Arizona State University, both in printmaking. Barbara, who has worked as a Professor of Art at the University of Pennsylvania in Edinborough and Louisiana State University at Shreveport, has returned to California, and now lives and works in San Jose. In addition to watercolor paintings, her projects include public art, printmaking, public installations, and murals, many done in collaboration with community. The recent paintings of Barbara Abbott's are direct responses to the environment --that is, images of the California landscape and the clutter of colors and things in front of her on the table.
