Artist's Statement
Painting is a special retreat for me. I love to paint everything from figures to seascapes, landscapes, and buildings. I am in awe, especially, of the wonderful California coastline, the landscape and the natural beauty this state offers.
My favorite medium is watercolor. I love the way it blends and the way the colors change as you apply them to the paper. The unplanned results of adding paint to paper never fail to fascinate me. I like to let watercolors "do their own thing" and create soft balanced shapes with simplicity and a sense of discovery and visual interest.
The general form of the subject initially inspires me when I start a painting. I then try to capture the essence and mood of the subject rather than rendering an exact likeness. I would describe my work as tending toward non representational.
