Artist's Statement

Bobbye West-Thompson Bobbye is a fourth generation Californian, having lived most of her adult life in various coastal cities.  After earning her BA (CalState Northridge) and MA (UC Santa Barbara), she taught in the public and private sectors for several years.  As a Management Trainer for the hotel industry, she had the opportunity to travel the state expanding her love of all things natural.  She created art projects for “The Big Blue Marble” children’s TV program, and later authored “Art Aardvark”, published by The Learning Works.  For twelve years, she owned California Learning Center, tutoring students in reading, math and SAT preparation.

Although a passion for art always existed, her career demands left little time to pursue personal artistic endeavors.  She is basically self-taught, but after taking an early retirement five years ago, she was able to participate in several workshops with a number of notably talented individuals, including Betty Edwards, Sally Jorgensen, Joan McKasson, Jane Burnham and Susan Ogilvie.  She expands her life-long photographic interest into her watercolor painting which include subjects from her travels throughout the U.S., and historical gardens everywhere.  She has been accepted into juried shows in Santa Cruz and Coos Bay, Oregon.

She currently resides in Los Osos, CA.
