Artist's Statement

Chetana KeltcherBorn in Bangalore, India, my art lessons started early when my aunt carried me over to the local art school one summer when I was about 5 years old. I won first prize in a state wide art competition in highschool, but art took the backstage to academics which sadly did not include art in the curriculum. After getting my Ph.D. in Computer Science and coming to the Silicon Valley to work, I started taking evening drawing and watercolor lessons first with Oneida Hammond and then with Ferenc Besze. I have also learnt a lot from Mike Bailey's classes and workshops with Skip Lawrence, Donna Zagotta, Arne Westerman and others in the last couple of years.

The impressionistic style of painting moves me emotionally. My style is still evolving and I like to experiment with new styles and mediums. While watercolor is my primary medium, I have started treating the paper with acrylic mediums to create different textures (after reading Cheng Khee-Chee's book). I recently started painting on Yupo paper and find it very exciting. Life has been a lot more fun since my quest for big shapes, bold brush stokes and vibrant colors began...
