Artist's Statement
I have been creating art all my life, from craft projects with paper and glue, to weavings with driftwood and sheep’s wool, and everything in between. I am an avid seamstress and in recent years have moved on from making clothes to creating art quilts, an exciting new avenue to explore, using fabrics and fiber in the place of paint.
And, of course, I love to paint! I have tried all media but currently my challenge, joy, and frustration is with watercolor. I particularly love to draw and paint outdoors and have filled numerous art pads with pen and ink drawings of the places I have visited.
I joined the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society primarily to take part in the Thursday morning paint sites and I am currently one of the Paint Site Organizers. I believe that being on location is the best way to paint a landscape – to be there in the elements experiencing the sights and the smells, to really see the colors, the shapes, the details, and to capture the atmosphere. Even if the work is finished or re-painted at home, to have experienced the scene at first hand, to be there as a part of the landscape is of immeasurable value – you just can’t beat it.
