Artist's Statement
Jerry Carpenter, born in West Virginia, educated at Berea College in Kentucky and Catholic University of American, moved to California in 2000.
Working as an Information Technology Director for Steelcase, Inc is a stressful job; thus, in an effort to focus on peace chose to begin painting watercolors some 5 years ago under the tutelage of Ms. Bobbie Dixon as part of the Santa Clara Adult Education Program.
Originally he began drawing and painting as a child and enjoyed drawing architecture. He began painting in Acrylics through his high school and college years then long abandoned the art. The change of medium to watercolor was a freeing process. He strove to bring enough detail to his watercolor paintings to please that sense of structure but strive to loosen up and capture mood and texture with the freedom of water. He is inspired by a favorite line of a fellow artist who says, “In every painting, what is it that you bring that is different”. He spend my days of painting aiming for that approach. Bring something new to the sight of the viewer.
Jerry now lives in San Jose, develops bonsai with the Kusamura Bonsai Club and the Bonsai Gardens of Lake Merritt, and paints with the guidance of Bobbie Dixon. “Painting brings great peace to my soul.”
