Artist's Statement
I am a retired engineering professor with an interest in watercolor for many decades. I paint mostly landscapes, indoors from my own photographs and sketches, and outdoors from nature. Most of my work is from local scenes here on the San Francisco peninsula. I also paint and sketch when traveling, mostly in the western US and Mexico in recent years. Recently, I have become interested in trying abstracts in watercolor too. My style is influenced by the many instructors from classes and workshops taken over the years.
Influential teachers include Chris Larsen (Arizona in the 1983), Brigit Curt, Chris Beck, Robin Scholl, Grace Gibson, Dale Laitinen, Mike Bailey, and Steve Curl the most recent of many at the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto. Finally, when we moved to the area in 1961, I started with a very memorable instructor, Will Provan, in an adult education class in Palo Alto Without his encouragement I doubt that I would have pursued this avocation as long as I have.
