Asilomar / Carmel Paint Out

The Ultimate Plein Air Experience!

Each year, SCVWS organizes a painting retreat, based at the Asilomar State Beach and Conference Center on the Monterey Peninsula. This is a great opportunity to get away from it all, and spend time painting with your fellow artists.

September 18-21, 2008
Plan now to come with us next year! Contact workshops@scvws.org

The format is relaxed, and you may elect to stay at the Asilomar Conference Center itself, or in and around Carmel and the Carmel Valley area. If enough people stay at Asilomar, we will have a meeting/ painting/critique room there, otherwise we will meet up in other locations to suit the group. There's lots to paint on the Asilomar Grounds, and it's extremely accessible, even for people with limited mobility. People can also stay wherever they wish, and paint with the group. Critiques will be held each each evening, and a schedule of painting locations, critiques and other group get-togethers will be provided.

Asilomar Paint Out 2007 Was A Great Success!

Seventeen SCVWS members enjoyed the beautiful Monterey Bay Costal area. We painted rocks, water and trees, Carmel Mission, the lighthouse, sunflowers and much more. Many chose to visit Point Lobos and found wonderful views. In Carmel Valley, we found a cornfield maze with a huge patch of sunflowers and marigolds planted in the center, and many artists took advantage of Carmel’s galleries and cafes. Saturday’s rain didn’t dampen our spirits! We painted in our rooms with the beautiful views or in our very own conference room with a roaring fire to keep us toasty. Evening critiques rounded off each day's painting, our critique leaders complimenting and helping us solve our problem areas. Join us next September, and have a great painting time!
