Comments from Jurist Caroline Mustard
Impressive body of work, I did not expect this degree of artistic endeavor. I was impressed by the creativity and general excellent use of the medium and sensitivity of marks. It makes a great show as it spans many different genres. It was difficult to select the winners as they were all winners in their own way. Thanks for the privilege of being your judge!
Jurist Caroline Mustard received her BA in fine art (painting) from the prestigious Brighton University’s Faculty of Art. Working for a living as an art director, Caroline expressed her love of painting through scenic painting in Hollywood at which she is expert. But when she was given her first iPad 5 years ago she was reborn s a painter and now specializes in painting on her iPad using it as a fine art canvas in the same manner as David Hockney, one of her major influences. Caroline since has become the leading iPad art instructor in the Silicon Valley, having taught classes in many locations including Stanford, Filoli, Palo Alto Art Center, the Pacific Art League and so on. Caroline is a working artist and has had three exhibitions of her work in the past two years. Her traditional art training mixed with her love of technology makes her the ideal artist in this modern age.

1st Place ($500) Mike Juror's Comments: What struck me was the quality of the marks, the depth of field achieved with this medium, including texture, and the overall stunning appeal of the painting. I could not take my eyes off it and had to give it first place as it seemed to have so much passion. Very good painter. |
2nd Place ($300) Fishing - Day and Night Juror's Comments: This struck me right when I walked in. The marks are very creative and work together, the composition and textures and color all work and create a painting that felt like the title. Very well done and masterly control of the medium. |

Judge's Favorite ($400 Cheap Joe Gift Certificate) Rainy Edinburgh Juror's Comments: I loved this painting when I saw it online. It has a classic composition with great use of darks and lights. Well-organized and great execution. But when I saw it was Edinburgh where I used to live I had to choose it as something I would absolutely have on my walls at home. It gave me the sense of being there. |
